Step Up to a Colorful Plate promotes the intake of fruits and vegetables along with adding walking to the daily activity schedule of adults.. This program has been translated into Spanish by Janet Brun, DTR; Supervisor of the NJ Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program--Union County Project for in service training of school food service personnel and educators.
In order to meet the needs of bilingual audiences in New Jersey, a double immersion educational format showing both English and Spanish power point versions of Step Up to a Colorful Plate at the same time in the same teaching room help English-Speaking as well as Spanish-Speaking participants understand this program. Since the development of this method, participants have been enthusiastic at training sessions because language is no longer a barrier to understanding the information being taught.
